Many people use the word dream instead of vision because it is a lot easier to understand, but I prefer to use vision because it speaks more permanently than what dream does. Vision says that this is your future and you can work towards it. I believe that children should be taught how to tap into the vision that God has for their lives at an early age. Just think for a moment, how different would your life be right now if you were encouraged to do the things that you loved to do and not what someone thought was the right things for you to do. I do not know about you, but I would have had a lot less stress in my life and many of you could probably say the same thing.
Our children are a gift from God and His specific instructions to us is to “raise them up in the way that they should go, that when they get old they will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6. We have used this scripture many times in the context of discipline and that is okay, but what if we used it in directing our children in the gifts, talents, and abilities that God has given them. So, let us restate it “raise (start encouraging) children in the way(gifts, talents, and abilities) that they should go and when they get old (it will stay with them through out life) they will not depart from (their gifts, talents, and abilities) it. Wow, look how different that scripture look, but yet meaning the same thing. We know according to Jeremiah 1: 5a That God knows our children before they are even born. He placed inside of each one of our children a greatness that is unique to them, and as their parents or guardians it is up to us to ask God to show us that uniqueness, then we can encourage them to walk in that uniqueness through out their lives and watch it catapult them to an awesome relationship with the God who created them. Can you imagine how many lives could be saved if children knew that they were born for a unique purpose in order to touch the lives of others. That God loved them so much that He imparted into them a little bit of Himself, so that they could assist in changing a life like He changes theirs. This is so powerful to know and understand as a parent. A child purpose is linked to the God that created them in order for them to touch another life that the creator created. We are the hands and feet of God. A child’s hug can change the uncanny attitude of a teacher or an administrator. A child’s smile can bring hope to an elderly person who can remember the day’s when they smiled and was full of a child like joy. A child’s faith can remind us as adults, how little faith we need in our time of struggles and temptation. A child’s voice can remind many of us about the pureness of God’s thoughts and blessings towards us.
It is important as parents and guardians that we do not neglect the awesome responsibility that has been instructed to us be God to “raise up a child in the way that he should go that when he gets old he will not depart from it”. Proverbs 22:6
